December 14, 2020 Dinner In The SKy

Who said you can’t feel like being on an island while staying Athens?

It is true that most of the tourists visiting Greece do visit the islands following a very quick stay in Athens. On the other hand there are some who stay in Athens longer than the average. That’s why they deserve to enjoy a day when they will feel like being… on an island!

Here is our suggestion on how to do this:

It is known that the best way to explore the Greek islands is by boat (sailing or motor yacht). A week cruising around the Aegean islands might be just the beginning. Another great option though while in Athens is exploring the “nearby” island by a rib. There are many agencies renting a rib, skippered or not.

Your itinerary may start early in the morning around 9am from Anavissos or a nearby area depending on where the agency is located. If you are staying in the center of Athens, you would need about 1 hour to get there.

If you have a valid license you can rent the rib on your own or alternatively you may ask for a skipper who will also know exactly where to take you to discover the hidden gems in each island.

An hour away from your starting point is the beautiful island of Hydra. One of the main advantages of being on a rib is that you can easily get off almost anywhere without too much hassle. As you enter the port of Hydra you will notice that the town is built in an amphitheater style with many waterfront cafés, where you may enjoy your breakfast.

Next stop could be Dokos, an almost uninhabited island as well as a famous yachting destination. There you can anchor and enjoy the crystal-clear blue waters. As you don’t have to worry about moving to the next gulf, it’s up to you on how many stops you will make before heading for lunch.

Poros, a pair of islands connected by a bridge, could be your next stop for lunch. Enjoy a walk in the main town of Poros with neoclassical architecture and the famous clock tower. Since you would definitely want to stop for a last swim on your way back, we would suggest to eat light.

Finally, on your way back you should definitely make a stop in the gulf under the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio. There it really worths to stay until the beautiful sunset!

That was one of the many different itineraries you can choose and spend a wonderful day with a rib while in Athens.
